Marriott’s 3:1 transfer ratio means you’ll receive 1 airline mile for every 3 Marriott points. That’s far less generous than Amex’s 1:1 transfer ratio. I love where your head is at, anyway — you’re scheming like a travel hacker!

Question: Bonvoy points transfer to some airlines at 3:1 ratio while Amex transfers at 1:1 ratio to that same airline.
Can I transfer Amex points to Marriott (1:1 transfer) and then Marriott to Airline for a 3:1 boost in my Amex points? Has anyone tried?

As you mentioned, transfer from Amex to Virgin Atlantic was almost instantaneous (about 30 mins to reflect in balance). For Virgin Atlantic to IHG transfer, I was required to call Flying Club and miles were deducted instantaneous but I was advised that it will take upto 30 days to reflect in IHG balance. How long does it practically take? I am waiting to book a reward stay.

FYI – Saw tremendous value reserving through Air Canada’s Aeroplan with my amex point transfer. I transferred 20k points and saved over $1k on some tickets around the U.S. Thanksgiving. Going to try and make more use of Aeroplan’s partnerships with the remaining point stash.

In reply to Iliana. Just did the same for 95kMRs to 285kHH for an AI in Playa del Carmen, with 5th night free. At 3:1, and having a big surplus, made it a no brainer.

I just transferred 12k Amex pts at a ratio of 1:3 at Hilton property in Madrid, helped me get a free night, offer ends 12-31
